Details
This 2,263 sq. ft. four bedroom, two bath, passive solar house was designed for a couple and their three kids to be “the opposite of shock and awe,” as the clients expressed to the architect Willard Dixon.
Project Highlights
- Radiant heat from ground source heat pump
- color is a warm earth-tone that compliments the maple cabinetry in the kitchen and hard wood floors upstairs
- Two solar panels provide most of the domestic hot water needs of the household.
- A heat recovery ventilator in the basement efficiently provides fresh air, indoor air within the super-insulated house, without loss of heat
- Recycled paint was used throughout the interior and exterior of the house, and many finishes were water-borne
- Low-flow shower heads and low-flow toilets used throughout.
- low wattage lighting add to the overall sustainability of the design.
